The superstition that Friday the 13th could be bad luck traces its origins to France in the middle-ages and even as far back as antiquity. And while there as many as three, Friday the 13ths in any given year, it is even more rare that Friday the 13th should coincide with the rise of a full moon. Tonight, at 10:33 pm MT, the full Harvest moon will rise on Friday, September 13. It's the first time these two events have occurred together since October 13, 2000. And it won't occur again until August 13, 2049.
So what occurs in the Lottery world on a day that is undeservedly synonymous with bad luck? Naturally, someone wins $197,398.
Friday, September 13, 2019 will always be the luckiest day in the life of Dalberta Faletogo, a Washington resident who works in Plummer, Idaho. On this Friday the 13th, she claimed a $197,398 winning ticket at Idaho Lottery headquarters in Boise. She won playing the Idaho Lottery game Ultimate Diamond Jackpot from a ticket purchased at the Benewah Market in Plummer.
"Friday the 13th has always been my favorite day, but now it's true!" exclaimed Faletogo when she received her winning check at Lottery offices in Boise. "This is amazing!"
Faletogo plans to host a "mortgage burning" party and use her winnings to pay off the mortgage on her home. When she received her check, she said, "That's enough! That's wonderful."
So the ticket was purchased under the Full Harvest Moon and the mortgage burning party might occur during the Moon of the Falling Leaves, or the Hunter's Moon, next month. Of course, perhaps maybe to remove the superstition, perhaps a full moon occurring around a Friday the 13th in the future could be called the Winner's Moon. A Winner's Moon, the time when Lottery players win big prizes.
Yes, a Winner's Moon, that has a good sound to it.
