Meridian Couple Claim “Surprise” $100,000 Winner on Powerball

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOISE, Idaho – Late Friday afternoon was quite the day for Kameron Rogers and her husband Charles.  During the day, Kameron gave notice to her employer that she was leaving her job.  Shortly after, Charles called her to share some great news.

“He called me and asked if he could pick me up.  He told me he just won $50,000 on Powerball and wanted to stop by the Lottery before heading out for our Friday night plans,” explained Kameron.  “I honestly didn’t believe him and told him he had better check his ticket to make sure.”

Charles knew he had a big winner, but he did not know how big of a Powerball winner it was.  His ticket matched four of the five numbers, plus the Powerball from the March 21, 2021 draw.  Normally, this would be a $50,000 winner.  Charles picked up his wife and they arrived at the Lottery Offices in Boise shortly before 5 pm on Friday, April 2, 2021.  That’s when Charles and Kameron got an extra $50,000 surprise.

“Arms raised, and wooh-hoo!  I was shaking, I couldn’t believe it,” described Charles on what happened when his Powerball ticket was scanned by Customer Service personnel at the Lottery Offices.

The Rogers’ winning ticket had PowerPlay, a feature that multiplies non-jackpot winning tickets.  The PowerPlay number for the March 21 draw 2X, meaning, the Rogers’ $50,000 was actually a $100,000 winner.

“That is a big surprise!” said Charles, still in disbelief when he was handed his actual check worth double what he thought he had won.

Kameron said the win was great timing. Although she doubted anyone would believe her, she could say her decision to leave her job was really “calling in rich.”

The winning ticket was sold at the Maverik on Fairview in Meridian.  For selling the winning ticket, Maverik receives a bonus of $10,000.  The Rogers plan to invest their winnings.

Powerball is the longest running game for the Idaho Lottery.  Started in 1992, the game annually generates an average of $14 million a year for Idaho’s beneficiaries, public schools and buildings.
