Lottery Looking for Latah County Powerball Winner

BOISE, Idaho ÔÇô Over fifty days have passed since an Idaho Lottery winning Powerball ticket worth $200,000 was sold in and around the area of Latah County for the August 6, 2011 draw. The holder of the ticket remains a mystery as no one has officially come forward to claim it. The holder of the ticket from this draw has until Friday, February 3, 2012 to claim their prize. The winning numbers from the August 6, 2011 draw were 25, 30, 54, 57, and 59. Although, the Powerball number was 6, this winning ticket did not match that number.

"This is a unique ticket in that it matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball itself," explained Jeff Anderson, Idaho Lottery Director. "Too often we've seen players think their ticket is not a winner because it did not match the Powerball number."

The Idaho Lottery is encouraging all players who may have been in Lewis, Latah, and Benewah Counties, both residents and visitors traveling through the area, to check their Powerball tickets carefully for winners.

The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night is an estimated $37 million.

Big winning tickets that go unclaimed have occurred in recent years. In July 2008, a $200,000 winning Powerball ticket that did not match the Powerball number itself, but all five other numbers, expired and went unclaimed. That ticket, which did not have the PowerPlay option, was sold in Malad City along the Idaho-Utah border in late January of that year.

A year ago in September 2010, a winning Powerball ticket worth $1,000,000 that was sold along the Idaho ÔÇô Wyoming border from the town of Irwin expired and went unclaimed. That ticket matched all five of the first numbers and did have the PowerPlay multiplier. Like this ticket, though, the Idaho Lottery never received any credible information regarding the owner of the ticket.

"As with any of our games, we remind players to sign the back of their tickets and contact Idaho Lottery Offices immediately when they have large winners," added Anderson.
